In 1990, Danny Morrison was imprisoned in Crumlin Road Jail charged with conspiracy to murder, kidnapping and IRA membership. It was while he was incarcerated that he began to reflect on his own life, critically appraise the balances of forces in the Northern conflict and consider a way out of the political impasse. This book takes the form of a series of letters to his partner, to friends and to comrades - letters both open and smuggled - in which he describes the effect of imprisonment on himself and his fellow republicans.
