Walden (Wordsworth American Classics)

Walden describes Henry David Thoreau's experiment in living in the relative wilds by Walden Pond from 1845 to 1847. It has become an American classic in its examination of the ecology of his time, and is, by turns, a source of philosophical speculation, social protest, political and practical advice, personal anecdote and the study of nature.

As Chris Angus points out in the introduction 'had the noble ideals that its author delineated almost a century and a half ago become widely accepted, we might not now be facing the many overwhelming difficulties of our own age'.
