The English medieval hospital, 1050-1640

Like the monastries in the medieval period, the hospitals adapted to changing social and economic forces, gradually becoming more secular in organization and architectural provision, with the larger monastic-style foundations of the 11th and 12th centuries giving way to the smaller, more private establishments in the post Black Death period. This work concentrates on architectural remains and would be of interest to students of medieval history, reference libraries and local history societies.
