Quakers and the Arts: Plain and Fancy: an Anglo-american Perspective

The narrative begins with Quaker-born Dolley Madison, wife to the fourth United States President and then turns to Benjamin West, painter of William Penn's Treaty with the Indians, who was George III's favourite painter and second President of the Royal Academy. Later we encounter modern artists with Quaker backgrounds: Joan Baez and James Michener among them: also practising Friends, Sheila Hancock, Judi Dench, Ben Kingsley, and Paul Eddington.
