The Book of John

One southwestern archeological site stands between fifty year-old John Thompson and life as he has lived it so far. Full of bones and a sacred hearth desecrated in a most heartless way, the site brings him face to face with his own failings. Unable to stand it, he flees his marriage and his job to the most extreme place he knows: the makah Indian community at Neah Bay, Washington. Exposed to the endless rain and relentless sea of the Olympic Peninsula, John is confronted with a people desperate to rejuvenate their ancient whaling tradition, a friend named George who seems determined to keep John in his life, and the ghost of an old love affair John has tried to bury for years.
