Mike Pannett has just taken up a new posting in rural North Yorkshire. It's quite a change from the Met, where he dealt with riots on the streets, drug gangs in Battersea and gun crime in Croydon. His first year is described here and as well as a memoir the book is a celebration of North Yorkshire - its landscape and character.
