The Uncertain Heart (LIN)

As the train speeds towards the West Country, Julie Newton, a Soho club hat check girl, cringes like a hunted animal, relentlessly pursued by the gang who she saw murder a policeman. Even in the church where she seeks sanctuary, she is followed. The priest takes her to a convent deep in the Devon countryside, and here the 'tough cookie' gradually softens through the friendship of a novice, an ex-show-biz nun, and the love and respect of a local farmer.
