Many of the historic lighthouses of the Chesapeake Bay have remained operational since their first lighting in the 19th century. The history of lighthouse construction on North American shores began in earnest with the congress of the fledgling United States government in 1789, on the Chesapeake Bay. This book for lighthouse buffs includes colour photographs showing the lighthouses today, mixed with vintage black and white photographs that recall the days of manned operation.
