On holiday in Amsterdam lawyer Rosa Epton is not thinking about work. But a chance sighting outside a cafe gives her a shock. Sitting at a table is an ex-client who should be behind bars, having recently been sentenced to five years in prison. Eddie Ruding, professional burglar, had been caught at the foot of a drainpipe, his pockets bulging with œ6,000 of stolen cash. His claim that he was working for MI5 was shaky and when his alleged contact there refused to come forward he was sent down. So what's he doing in Amsterdam a few weeks later?
