History of the Great Civil War Volume Three 1645-47

From September 1645 to October 1647, the New Model Army went from a series of victorious campaigns to a period of extraordinary political and religious upheavals. Most important, the revolutionary fervor that gradually took hold in the rank and file of Parliament's Army set it at loggerheads with the Presbyterian faction that controlled Parliament itself. These events eventually led to King's abduction and incarceration, and to the rise both of "Agitators" in the army and "Levellers" who pressed for greater recognition of the common soldier.
