Description:
There has been a distinct lack of intensive documentation of the history of the Trobriand Islands in Papua New Guinea, leaving the origins of the people shrouded in myth. In 1998 and 1999 a project undertaken by Gotland University College in Sweden sought to investigate sites on the island to find evidence for the colonisation of the islands and discover whether there was cultural continuity through to the present day. This volume reports on their methodology, which included excavation, survey, skeletal and phosphate analysis at key sites on the island, and their findings.
