Old Bude
Description:
Photographs of the old and new outdoor pools, stalls on Crooklets beach, and the Grenville Hotel under construction reveal that Bude has been a popular tourist destination for over a century. Many pictures show the historic Bude canal, with vessels such as the sailing ketch Ceres plying her trade to and from the town. Elsewhere there's the now-demolished art deco Picture House, with photographs from the 1940s showing wartime evacuees arriving in the town - and a street party celebrating the end of the war in 1945. The horse-drawn Bude-Holsworthy coach and Bude railway station are included, along with local businesses such as Cann Medland's garage. The last few pages of the book feature pictures of Stratton.
