The Mers: Aerwyn of Atlantica
Description:
The Mers: Aerwyn of Atlantica follows a teenage mermaid in her quest across the five oceans to save her family, community, and all of sea life. In the underwater world of the Atlantic Ocean, Aerwyn has just graduated from the Academy and is struggling to figure out what to do with her life in the increasingly bleak Atlantic Ocean. Always nagging at Aerwyn is why she looks different than the rest of the Atlanticans. Her grandmother never gives her a satisfactory answer, and Aerwyn can't shake the feeling that she is different in more than just her tail color. When the mermagician Earendil and handsome but haughty Fenn arrive from the Pacific Ocean, Aerwyn's ordinary life is turned upside down. Aerwyn is volunteered by her grandmother to join the Pacificanans' quest to break the magical barrier between the mer people and the humans to plead with the humans to save the oceans. The quest takes Aerwyn to distant oceans, and through kelp forests, oil fields, deep trenches, and staggering mountains, fighting off predators and those who oppose breaking the barrier along the way. During the journey across the oceans, Aerwyn makes friends, learns her value, falls in love, and finds passion in conservation. Most importantly, she finally discovers why she is different, and how she alone has the power to save sea life.
