Des animaux importants (Important animals)

This book introduces the names of some animals and looks at how some of them have become national symbols in certain (mostly French-speaking) countries. Vietnam was a French colony until the middle of the 20th century and is now a member state of the Francophone community. For historical reasons, there are some French speakers (over 2 million) in the United States, mostly in Louisiana and New England. Pupils who are familiar with counting orally may be surprised that the written forms of these numbers are very different from what they might have imagined. It is useful to establish the correct sound-spelling links early on. Pupils can easily and quickly read this short, attractive, highly-illustrated French book for a sense of enjoyment and achievement. The book can be used to introduce children to reading in French and help them to improve their reading skills.
