The Call of the Wild
Description:
First introduced to the world in 1903, The Call of the Wild continues to stand as one of the classic adventure stories.\nBuck, a dog living a relaxed and privileged life, is kidnapped and thrust into the brutal realities of survival of the fittest as a sled dog during the Yukon Gold Rush. He must adapt or die in his newfound harsh conditions. But Buck is no ordinary dog, and the challenges he faces become opportunities to prove himself as he and the other dogs around him fight for survival and dominance of their worlds.\nThe Yukon Gold Rush (also referred to as the Klondike Gold Rush) took place between 1896 and 1899 after Keish and George Carmack, brothers-in-law, discovered gold in the remote Canadian wilderness. When word of their discovery got out, hordes of prospectors rushed to the scene to seek their fortune (though few seemed to do so in the end). Due to the harsh conditions, sled dogs were often utilized. In 1897, at the peak of the gold rush mania, Jack London traveled to the Yukon, noting that the experience helped lead him to discover himself. The Call of the Wild is by far his most famous work.
