Code of Misconduct: Conduct Unbecoming

Major Grey Colson's retirement from the Clay County Sheriff's Office isn't exactly what he had bargained for. Cancer had taken his beloved wife Ann's life-and changed his forever. Their home of over twenty years is nothing but an empty shell and a constant reminder of her suffering. Leaving their home to his newlywed daughter, Colson leaves the stifling heat of Georgia for their condominium in beautiful Daytona Beach, Florida. The memories there are of happier times. The plan is to enjoy the ocean view and cruise the beach in his Corvette; but he's worried that being idle will drive him crazy. Then, one day fate intervenes when his cell phone rings. It's an old acquaintance and retired detective who persuades him to assist with one last surveillance job. Colson reluctantly accepts the offer; something about the job bothers him-but how bad can it be? One or two hours and the job will be done. Quick and dirty. He ultimately lives to regret it. An encounter with an egomaniacal Volusia County Deputy during a traffic stop leaves him with a less-than-positive perception of the local sheriff's office. But the Daytona Beach cop he later encounters gives Colson renewed hope that not all the locals are incompetent. It's Officer Matt Sanders who rolls up on Colson after he decks a punk for slapping a young girl at the beach. Professional and by the book, Colson knows cops like Sanders are a rare commodity. An eventful first month to say the least, but the seemingly unrelated events soon intertwine around one man-Martin Cash-and he pulls Colson into a world of human trafficking, murder, and blackmail. As a former commander of Internal Affairs, Colson knows all the players and their dirty secrets, but now he's out of the loop and it's getting under his skin. The Sheriff is turning a blind eye and his organized crime unit is getting nowhere. Colson finally decides to leave it alone and let the police and the bad guys play their game without him. But all of that changes in an instant when his daughter falls into the middle of Cash's lethal operation. If they can't get the job done, Colson will. With nothing else to lose, he abandons the code of conduct he's lived by for nearly thirty years and does what has to be done-policy and procedures be damned.
