But in 1950 NBC developed a science-fiction series for adults, called Dimension X. Sure, a sci-fi story or two had been dramatized Suspense, The Mysterious Traveler and Escape; but until Dimension X arrived on the scene, radio left the vast reaches of outer space virtually unexplored. Adventures in time and space told in future tense! DIMENSION X X X X X X Most of the stories came from Astounding Science Fiction Magazine, which offered the best writers in the field, including Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, Kurt Vonnegut and Robert Psycho Block. In a time when many radio shows were giving way to television, Dimension X had a good run, producing 50 shows. Four years after it left the airwaves, NBC retooled it and brought it back as X Minus One.
