Kiki and the Red Shoes

It's 1939 and six-year-old Kiki lives in Athens, Greece with her mother and brother, Yannie. A special gift, a pair of shiny red shoes, from an American aunt plays a surprising role in her school program. The story is about family, human relationships, and history as it touches on World War II in Europe as the reason the family plans to leave Greece. Although the red shoes "stick out", they save the day. The story is based on a true incident in the authors life. Included in the book is a Read-along CD which is read by the author. It is recommended for children 5-10.
