Amelia Gayle Gorgas - First Woman of Position (Alabama Roots Biographies Series)

The daughter of an Alabama governor, she was a member of Mobile society and, later, Washington, D.C. society, served in Confederate hospitals during the Civil War, ran the Brierfield Furnace and for many years was the beloved University of Alabama librarian. (Mobile native, Tuscaloosa resident)
