Excerpt: “You know it’s the 80s when your comic book opens with a shot of a red Camaro sitting on the deck of an aircraft carrier. After Kenner’s successful launch of the MASK franchise with toys and a cartoon show, DC Comics unleashed a four-part mini-series in December of 1985, right before Christmas.\n“Mom, dad! I need that flying Camaro!” What cruel and sadistic parents could argue with such a request?\nMASK’s leader, Matt Trakker, dives off the front of an aircraft carrier to recover a strategic defense satellite from the bottom of the ocean. Trakker dodges its malfunctioning laser beams in a death-defying act of bravery to hook the device and reel it back up to the surface, right in front of the enemy, V.E.N.O.M. Michael Chen’s pencil work is tight, and the storyboarding is thrilling. In just a few pages, I’m hooked.”
