Lifted!

The book's protagonist, Vonnette Covington, a young woman from Harlem who is ostracized incessantly for years because she has eczema, seeks shelter and refuge in church to escape the emotional pains that plague her; but she is then physically victimized and needs to flee the very place that was once her sanctuary. To cope, she finds comfort in the book of Job and remains steadfast in her belief that she will someday, somehow triumph over the afflictions through her impregnable self-will, determination and faith in God.
