Against the Grain: A Volume in Honor of Maxine Hairston (Research in Teaching of Rhetoric & Composition)

Maxine Hairston's has bee one of the pre-eminent voices among writing teachers in the U.S. Today her key articles are available only in scattered collections and sites. There, part of the aim of this volume is to provide, in Part One, a resource in which all her key writing is available. An introduction to each piece has been added. Part Two consists of new essays that acknowledge Hairston's influence. They offer restatements of her core ideas, or explain how her ideas provided points of resistance that enabled another scholar to better define that scholar's own thinking on composition.
