After the death of her son in 1991, Catherine Poelman examined each personal belief, assumption and hope left in her as she confronted the attitudes of others towards her and her son. Combining the narratives of one youth's suicide and one adult's quest for understanding, Since Stephen explores suicide in context, and recognizes it as part of the larger issue people face when they battle with their private agonies isolated from the help of others.
