Moon & Tide

This book brings Alaska Native understanding of science and ecology to the elementary classroom, by showing teachers how to present local and ecosystem knowledge held by long-time inhabitants of southeast Alaska. It includes several activities for studying moon phases and tides, and addresses science teaching standards, inviting elders to the classroom, and Native language and legends. Native knowledge has an increasingly important role as mainstream America comes to terms with our dependance on a healthy earth. We help Alaska's students meet state content standards!
