Significant changes to the 9th edition: New Standard 1.4 requires the perioperative program have policies, processes, and procedures in place to ensure continuity of operations is maintained in the case of potential events that could put operations at risk. New Standard 7.3.1.1 requires that perioperative programs ensure that in the cases of adverse events, the first step taken is to discontinue the administration of blood components. New Standard 8.3.1 requires that perioperative programs ensure that quality indicator data gathered are shared with the individuals who have most responsibility for activities surrounding this information.
