McSe Training Guide: Windows Nt Server 4
Description:
Windows NT Server is Microsoft's most powerful piece of software, and mastery of it is critical to becoming a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). Not only do you need to know Windows NT Server for the NT Server exam (70-67), but you also need to know it for the other MCSE exams.
The authors quote one of Microsoft's stated test objectives verbatim, enabling you to hold in mind what you need to learn for the exam, and then explain the details in several pages of text and illustrations. The authors begin with planning considerations--choosing protocols, setting up groups, and the like. Next, they discuss how to install, configure, and optimize NT Server, which is a big part of the exam. The other big general component of the exam--management and administration--comes up next and is given the attention it deserves.
This guide would be better if it contained more information on integrating NT Server into a network based on Novell NetWare--a subject that's both on the exam and essential to many real-world applications of NT Server. Still, the book makes up for this omission with its inclusion of information on Remote Access Services (RAS), the Telephony API, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting. A companion CD-ROM includes an NT Server quiz program that randomizes questions and tracks your score. The randomization feature isn't perfect, though--you can get the same question twice in a single test, sometimes more than once.
