Thirty five years ago I really thought I knew something about turkeys and not only did I understand them, I was perfectly willing to tell you anything you wanted to know about them. In the last two or three years all kinds of things have happened that have caused my firm convictions to lose a great deal of their rigidity. In some instances the convictions have turned out to be wrong. In many cases their sharp corners have been knocked off.
