Gay, 40, and less than satisfied with the state of his current life, G uy Griffith arrives in San Francisco like many before himyas a refugee from some intimacy gone disastrously wrong in the huge nation east of the bay. When he meets sixteen-year-old Doug Whitmore on a ridge over looking a nude beach, he surrenders with pleasure to the boy's radiant adolescent energy. Guy doesnFt yet understand how deeply rooted DougF's hurts and confusions are, nor how dangerous they might come to be, a nd he is not entirely willing to admit, even to himself, how susceptib le he is to the fugitive attraction that he and Doug both feel. DougFs identity problems, while common in adolescents, are exacerbated by a father who presents a violently homophobic persona to his family and f riends but engages in dangerous sexual trysts with male strangers when his homosexual urges become too strong to subdue.
