Read and Understand: Stories & Activities, Kindergarten

This hands-on resource book for Kindergarten contains 23 reproducible stories and practice materials for a wide spectrum of reading skills. The stories vary in reading difficulty to be appropriate to meet the needs of emerging readers in the average Kindergarten.

Each story is followed by four or five pages of activities for practicing prereading skills such as:
retelling a story, developing vocabulary, auditory and visual discrimination, recognition of color words, and sequencing.

Each story consists of four half-page sheets, suitable for cutting apart to make little individual books. Page one contains a picture dictionary, illustrating words featured in the story. All stories are fully illustrated. Story topics range from fantasy to the real-life activities experienced by children of this age, and include: up and down, where do the animals belong?, in the sky, the rainbow, animal babies, and more.

Practice activities for every story include: a comprehension page, a sound/symbol association page, and a cut-and-paste activity. Complete answer key provided. Charming line art illustrations throughout. All 144 pages perforated for easy removal.
