The Golden Rock: An Episode of the American War of Independence 1775-1783

It is a true story about a little-known episode in the American Revolutionary War: St. Eustatius Island in the West Indies was the richest trading center in the Caribbean at the time, and was a source for the American rebels of arms and other necessities. The British declared war on the Dutch, who "owned" the island, to keep them from siding with Britain's enemies in France and Spain, and they proceeded to strip all the island's assets to enrich themselves. The author p[pieced this story together from old records, and tells it in a lively fashion. The end pages show the location of St. Eustatius Island in relation to the American shoreline and Africa, and the book also contains a full-page picture of the island.
