Faces of a Neighborhood: Boston’s South End in the Early Twenty-first Century

In this sequel to A Block in Time, an informal history of Boston’s South End, Lynne Potts interviews twenty-four current residents who reflect the extraordinary ethnic and economic diversity of the neighborhood. They include newcomers and old-timers, owners of luxury town houses and financially stressed tenants, risk-takers and conformists, young and old, gay and straight, who together illustrate the dramatic changes that have taken place in the community over the past fifty years. Despite their differences, these South Enders reveal, perhaps to a surprising degree, a shared outlook on the factors that characterize life in the city today.
