Product Description In his latest merry misadventure, Henry the Duck is late for a very important date in this energetic and hilarious picture book from beloved author Robert Quackenbush!Henry the Duck has an important task: he must bring the birthday cake to his friend Clara’s party. But disaster waits around every corner! Time and again Henry is delayed. He’s stuck in a traffic jam or on a broken elevator or on a very slow bus! Will the celebration be over before he arrives? Children and parents alike will love following disaster-prone Henry’s race to the party, cleverly written and illustrated by celebrated and legendary author Robert Quackenbush. From School Library Journal K-Gr 3—This new installment about Henry the Duck, who struggles through every unfortunate event, sees our hero trying to get to his friend Clara's birthday party. He has the cake, and he knows how to get there, but traffic is terrible. So he parks his car and tries to get a cab, but he locks his keys and the cake in the car. When he breaks into the car, a policeman stops him and checks his identification. Each event is more annoying than the last until the story's hilarious conclusion. This is a perfect book for early readers who want a bit of a challenge; the story has a clipped pace, with many visual clues to help readers along. Children will love predicting what obstacle Henry is going to face next in this instant classic. VERDICT A wonderful choice for all, but especially libraries building up the early reader section—there are four other books about Henry.—Debbie Tanner, S D Spady Montessori Elem., FL About the Author Robert Quackenbush (1929–2021), the author and illustrator of more than two hundred books for young readers, was a graduate of the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles and also had a master’s degree in social studies and a PhD in childhood education.
