Chinook salmon are magnificent creatures, whether fresh from the sea or digging in gravels hundreds of miles - months from the sea As a fisheries biologist for some four decades, I focused much of my angling and professional passion on Chinook salmon. Eventually, I discovered the challenges and rewards of fly fishing for kings in the estuaries. It's fair to say that my life these days is framed around the seasons of the Chinook runs on the Oregon coast.A Chinook fishery conducted by fly rod anglers in coastal rivers of North America is documented by a series of articles scattered about in fishing magazines; by Russell Chatham in his book "The Angler's Coast;" and the movie 'Rivers of A Lost Coast' by Justin coupe and Palmer Taylor.I composed this book as a journal to document the favorite Chinook flies tied by 24 Oregon salmon anglers.
