Pacific Islanders were plantation slaves to the Brits before WWII. Mythic John Frum urged natives to "go back to custom," earning a price on his head. A Boston missionary and a cargo cult shaman awaiting ships full of food and tools meet on Christ's Despair Island and experience the culture clash with ironic humor and action adventures involving the Japanese, US Navy, and cannibal headhunters.
