Description:

Foremost is the large soft cover story of yeomen Mississippi farmers, politicians, craftsmen and merchants who volunteered to fight for the South in the Civil War. During the years leading up to that fratricidal conflict, families moved west to find new land. The families of these soldiers were typical.Fighting bravely and facing incredible odds, the 4th endured ice, snow, horrid prisoner of war camps and still fought to the end. Their deeds were carried out at Fort Donelson, Fort Henry, Vicksburg, Chickasaw Bluffs, Big Black River Bridge, Port Gibson, Kennesaw Mountain, Franklin, Atlanta, Allatoona Pass, Nashville, Fort Blakeley and Mobile. The first half of the book provides a narrative of the regiment's travels in the war.The second half of the book will be helpful to genealogists from Choctaw, Attala, Caroll, Holmes, Lafayette and Calhoun counties. Included in the appendix is a partial roll of POWs from the 4th. The book also contains casualty lists from Port Gibson and Vicksburg. A list of every soldier in the 4th concludes the appendix.
