Dog Days of the Great War

The Great War, known now as World War I, was one of the most brutal conflicts known to man. Advances in the technologies of poison gas, aircraft and tanks all made the trenches a more brutal and dangerous place.Despite the technology, war is still about people. This novel tells of two non-combatants trying to cope with the stresses of intense and deadly warfare. Both volunteered to serve, neither is quite prepared for what they see and do.Amelia Hawks is an ambulance driver with the British Red Cross. After growing up in North Dakota, she volunteered to put the worst carnage known to man in front of her view to erase the nightmares of her life at home.Felix Anders is a war correspondent from Winnipeg who wants to document the greatest adventure imaginable, and have a good time doing it.The story follows their actions in the early part of the war where they witness the development of tanks, the refinement of aircraft and the horrors of gas warfare. Each copes in their own way with varying degrees of success in maintaining sanity through the most brutal conditions known to man.
