My House of Dreams

Noki is a young Native American who dreams of someday becoming his tribe’s master weapon maker like his father. Then the Spanish priests, bringing devastating sicknesses and strange gods. How can Noki resist the efforts of the white men to force him to adopt their way of life? Even his little brother, Eti, is drawn to the Spanish gods and their charismatic priest.
Antonio Peyri, a young Franciscan priest newly arrived in California, is put in charge of building the new mission. He struggles to win the hearts and souls of the people already living there, even though he doesn't totally understand them. Can Noki find a compromise between his culture and that of the white invaders?
