Grandad's Book - From Biplanes to Concorde
Description:
An illustrated autobiography of John Dobson with over 100 photographs. John Dobson left his home on the small farm in the North of England at the age of 14 to work understairs in London and then on to a career in the Royal Air Force. There are fascinating details about life in the countryside and farm life in the 1920s/30s as well as his time working as a hallboy "below stairs" in London. John then chronicles his R.A.F. experiences and travels throughout Africa during World War II and England postwar before taking the reader to Cyprus during the "troubles," or EOKA uprising and then to Singapore in the late 1960s. He continues with his life after the R.A.F. to retirement. He has included many vignettes from his life, some told with his laconic sense of humour but all revealing extremely interesting glimpses into a past that started before television, radio, computers, flush toilets, phones and jet aircraft. John's book also includes a chapter about his hobby of tatting with which he won many awards.
