Godsmacked

Charlie Ellison practically sleepwalks though an existence so excruciatingly boring, it’s enough to drive a lesser man to hurl himself headlong into a volcano. That all changes when a freak trans-dimensional temporal accident flings him into… heaven?? Well, what the ancient Greeks thought to be heaven-- an inter-dimensional Mt. Olympus to be exact. Despite his rather pedestrian existence, Charlie is rather keen on returning to the normalcy of Earth. On his journey to find a way home, he meets Heracles (who is scrawny and still pubescent), a brooding Zeus who loves the disco song, “It’s Raining Men” (he is a thunder god, after all), Mafioso-type Poseidon (who seems to be god of THE Underworld), conceited, steroid-addicted Nike (who is seemingly the god of ill-gotten victory in sports), and a host of other zany gods, goddesses and demi-gods. But Charlie wonders: if this is really paradise, why is it populated with such goofy, self-centered miscreants? Why is he here? If it’s not the true afterlife, then what is this place? Most importantly, can any of these dysfunctional deities help him get back home to New Jersey? A modern-day Swiftian satire, “Godsmacked” leaves no sacred cow un-skewered: politics, pop culture, technology, ecology, hip-hop, terrorism, and religion, are all roasted.
