Description:
GREENMANTLE is just one of John Buchan's thirty novels. This one focuses around a political situation taking place in the Middle East. There is talk that the Germans and their Turkish allies are plotting to cause turmoil throughout the Muslim world. Richard Hannay, resourceful soldier and occasional spy, heads off with his old comrade from Africa, Peter Pienaar. The plan is that the two of them will enter Germany via the Netherlands, posing as anti-British exiles anxious to fight on the side of Germany. The story tells how Hannay becomes separated from Peter and becomes seriously ill out in the country. Peter ends up in a German prison and the twists and turns go on from there. Alfred Hitchcock actually preferred GREENMANTLE to THE THIRTY-NINE STEPS that he made into a movie. He never did get GREENMANTLE made, but he dearly wanted to do so.
