Prayer: The Great Means of Obtaining Salvation and All the Graces Which We Desire of God

Prayer is necessary because it is the means by which we receive God's graces, says Saint Alphonsus Liguori. Without prayer, we cannot follow his commandments. The saints can assist us here by praying for us. Above all, the Mother of God can pray for us. Our own prayers are dear to God and serve us in times of temptation. Throughout the Bible, God promises that our prayers will be heard. In both small and great things, we should rely on prayer to our Creator. There are four particular conditions required for prayer to be effective, and Alphonsus explains these four. If these are fulfilled, our prayer is sure to be heard. The grace of the saving power of prayer is available to all. This Alphonsus demonstrates with dozens of quotations from Scripture, the saints, and the Church Councils.
