Conquistador
Description:
Conquistador summary
Conquistador is a tale of conquest and deceit told through two storylines. The first is set in the 1500s, when Francisco Coronado entered what is now eastern New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle seeking fame and precious metals. With an army of cavalry, foot soldiers, priests, porters, and herds of livestock, Coronado wandered the northern frontier of Spain's empire during the summer of 1541.
Artifacts lost by one of Coronado's men become the center of the second storyline, set in modern times. Their accidental discovery by Texas rancher Eleanor Grissom sets in motion an intrigue of larceny, abduction, romance, and death.
Conquistador won First Place in Mainstream Fiction in Albuquerque's Southwest Writers Workshop, as well as First Place in Western Fiction in the Austin Writers' League contest.
