Louis charles adelaide DE chamisso, known as Adel bert de Chamisso, was born January e7th, 1781, in the ancient castle of Boncourt in Champagne. The family was originally from Lorraine and noted for its loyalty to the reigning dukes; it made accordingly many splendid alliances. Adelbert was a younger son, and was, in ac cordance with the French custom of the day, called Che valier. His father and brothers served under King Louis XVI. Until his capture, and then remained in the service of the royal party.
