He took part in the battle of Chancellorsville and the battle of Gettysburg. He was in the hospital sick for a time. After Gettysburg he was ordered north to receive and forward drafted men and for seven months was engaged in this duty at Elmira, New York. He was in the offices at Hilton Head for a year. He had the rank of corporal. When he left the army he returned to Homer and since that he has followed farming on the place where he is now living. He has a herd of fifty cows and does a large dairy business. In politics he is a Republican. and for eight years he was justice of the peace and member of the town board. For seven years he was supervisor of the town. making a total of fifteen years on the town board. He is a member of Little York Grange. Her father was born in 1815 in Rhode Island, died February 20, 1892; her mother was born in Vermont in 1818, died in 1882. Thomas Salisbury. father of Stephen F., came from Cranston.
