Stanley Meltzoff: Picture Maker

STANLEY MELTZOFF was one of the first paperback cover artists to be noted for his work in the science fiction field, painting dramatic images that escaped the pulp influence evident in most other science fiction covers of the period. Meltzoff also produced work for slick magazines, such as Scientific American, Life, Fortune, and the Saturday Evening Post. The winner of 25 awards from the Society of Illustrators, he was one of the first, and certainly most preeminent, fish painters. His underwater images were a regular feature in National Geographic and other publications.
