Historical fiction thriller set in western Kentucky, New Orleans and Brazil. A scheming banker seeks to lay his hands on the properties of undocumented persons with negro blood. After co-opting a rogue doctor, a weak judge and using "scientific racism" to "prove" his victims' lineage, the banker makes his move against the wealthiest citizens in New Orleans, casting his web north into Kentucky, disrupting the lives of folks trying to survive the "Year Without a Summer."
