Dispensational Development and Departure

Lewis Sperry Chafer is one of the most misunderstood theologians in the dispensational camp. He is misunderstood by friends and foes of dispensationalism. He is often targeted by progressive dispensationalists for his alleged non-literal approach to hermeneutics. One covenant theologian accused him of being in the "very uncomfortable condition of having two inconsistent systems of religion struggling together in his mind." This book gives a brief historical background on Chafer's life, discusses his theology and evaluates his contributions to dispensationalism. This study particularly emphasizes the continuity between Chafer's form of dispensationalism to essentialist dispensationalism in order to demonstrate that essentialists share more in common than differences with Chafer on key aspects of his theology.
