Book 1 in the Teacher, Soldier, Spy Series A suspenseful plot spanning cultures, religions, and countries, The Operative: Escape from Saudi Arabia takes the reader into a world few of us have experienced. The first of a fascinating trilogy, Forsythe weaves fact and fiction in the this powerful tale. --Jan Macomber, MA English Literature

Bill Williams was only ten when both of his parents died. His small town life in Duncan, Oklahoma was over. Life intervened in the form of his Uncle Sly, who tried to tame the spirited boy without success.

Soon after high school, Bill joined the military and served for six years. As an undergraduate, Bill was a reluctant student, but found his pace in graduate school where he became fascinated with hypnosis and psychology. He became a teacher and married the love of his life, Alex. Both he and Alex taught school in Saudi Arabia. Teaching gets complicated when Bill is arrested as a Jewish spy. He escapes on the Red Sea by sailing a fourteen-foot Arab dhow to freedom. His daring three-week trek on the Red Sea is only one of many adventures. The novel is based on true events during Dr. Williams' tenure as an educator in Saudi Arabia.

The Operative is the first book in the Teacher, Soldier, Spy series that chronicles two wars: Vietnam and the Russian Afghan War. The next two books in the series are Forks in the Road followed by The Afghan Bear Trap set in Russia.
