It was towards the end of World War Two, when ten, hope-filled days changed the lives of two special young people forever. George Rogers, a young British soldier from London’s rough and tumble East End, was among the troops sent to the South of France to help the locals return to their former lives and homes after four years of Italian occupying rule. Janine Juppet was a beautiful young French girl whose family traced their aristocratic lineage back centuries.Their backgrounds couldn’t have been more different. They barely spoke each other’s language. But a chance meeting on a St. Tropez beach awoke in them a love that neither had ever experienced. Over the next ten days, that love deepened into a mutual respect and affection. And then George was shipped out. The days, weeks, and years that followed in a still uncertain post-war Europe reduced their contact to letters exchanged through a sporadic postal service.
