Too Much to Swallow: The Gold Gastrolith of Calaveras County & Selected Works by Glenn Wasson

Readers of this book should expect the unexpected. It is a smorgasbord of the author's lifetime travels and unlikely experiences, designed to amaze, amuse and entertain. Ambrose Bierce abandoned his successful writing career in San Francisco and volunteered his services to a revolutionary movement in Mexico. He was never heard from again, swallowed up in obscurity. Glenn Wasson says he has charitably added to Bierce's sardonic observations of human folly with contributions of his own. The author has also embellished Ogden Nash's zoological alphabet with some of his own creations. The unpleasantness known as the Vietnam War was seldom an incubator for military humor, but the author succeeded in milking this inhospitable setting for rare flashes of lighthearted levity. Too Much to Swallow contains a few hilarious episodes from the Vietnam era. Wasson's previous publication, Tales Mark Twain would Have Loved to Steal, has been awarded gold medals for humor from Readers Favorite and Military Writers Society of America. Wasson received a bronze medal for the anthology from Stars and Flags. His latest book is a happy marriage of unpublished work and past favorites. This collection of Wasson's work is a pastiche of poetry, flash fiction, lessons from nature, fantasy fiction accounts from the historical past, and numerous subjects too humorous to mntion.
